Kandawgyi -Royal Lake

Kandawgyi also known as Royal Lake, this artificial lake, built by the British as a reservoir, is most attractive at sunset, when the glittering Shwedagon Pagoda is reflected in its calm waters. The main relaxing place for Yangon people with various food stalls in the park. The boardwalk, which runs mainly along the southern and western sides of the lake (and which is free to wander), is also an ideal place for an early-morning jog or stroll.

Shwedagon Pagoda

The Shwedagon Pagoda is one of the most famous pagodas in the world and it is certainly the main attraction of Yangon, Myanmar’s capital city. There is little wonder that the Shwedagon is referred to in Myanmar as “The crown of Burma.” According to some history and facts, the pagoda is 2,600 years old, making Shwedagon the oldest pagoda in the world and it is a must for travelers to visit without fail while in Yangon.

Yangon Zoo

Yangon Zoo is located near Kandawgyi Garden. The Zoo is well known for its diverse collection of wild animals, flora and fauna which have been collected over the years since it was opened in 1906.

Also known as Scott Market, the Bogyoke Aung San Market, on Bogyoke Aung San Road, is popular with tourists looking for souvenirs such as paintings, puppets, lacquerware and jewellery. It’s well worth a wander, even if you’re not buying anything, and also a fine place for lunch.
